Tony Borg is a studio owner as well as producer, musician, entrepreneur and lead guitarist for the legendary Swedish rock group Alien. With a studio pedigree that runs deep and a career spanning decades, Tony’s name is synonymous with quality sound. His latest work with Alien, including the album When Yesterday Comes Around, was recently followed up with an acclaimed, sold-out August 2025 tour in Colombia.
“a robust, sustainable solution”
So when it came time to upgrade the centrepiece of his Playhouse Music Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, Tony knew he couldn’t compromise on sound quality, but he desperately needed reliability.
Having cut his teeth on legacy consoles like MCA and SSL and most recently a massive 60-channel vintage Neve V3, Tony is no stranger to working with top-tier hardware. As he explains however, even the ‘great tools’ come with a hidden cost. “I could no longer justify for my clients and for myself all loss of planned studio time and irritation due to sudden malfunctions,” says Tony. “Not to mention the huge, constant cost, worry and work to keep this old vintage up and running.” Tony was tired of the technical interruptions and the endless maintenance cycle.

So the search for a new console had to be meticulous. Tony needed a robust, sustainable solution that wouldn’t compromise his sound. After weighing up the options, he opted for the Audient ASP8024|HE. Drawing him in were the great references from satisfied users and the console’s smart, pedagogical functions; a modern workflow solution for a vintage sound aficionado.
This specific configuration was created by Tony using our free-to-use, online Console Builder: a 24-channel ASP8024|HE, complete with DLC dual layer control, Master section, and Patch Bay.

Now fully installed, the ASP8024|HE is already proving its worth. “The ASP8024 is far beyond my expectations,” Tony confirms. “What matters most, the sound is definitely up and above all of my previous consoles.”
He’s particularly impressed with the tone when pushing the console’s extra flavour: “It exceeds them when engaging the ‘magic’ HE Heritage module.”

When it comes to his modern studio needs, the integrated workflow is essential. The DLC dual layer control provides a perfect link between the analog console and his Pro Tools setup.
The result is a setup that delivers the pure, clean sound Tony demands – but now, crucially, without the unexpected interferences and downtime. For Tony, that means walking into Playhouse Music Studios with a happy smile every single day.
A huge thanks to Tony for choosing Audient! The ASP8024|HE was supplied by local Audient distributor, Polysonic Scandinavia AB.
