ICMP ‘Audient Studios’ A Hit with Staff & Students

24th octobre 2022

The newest Institute of Contemporary Music Performance (ICMP) campus at Queens Park officially opens on 28th October and houses the Mix Master studio centred around the ASP8024-HE console. According to ICMP’s Head of Industry Partnerships and Business Development, Ace, “It is constantly in use for lessons as well as student projects and has received nothing but great comments and reviews from staff and students alike.”

Designed by Veale Associates, the studio was part of phase one of ICMP’s £2.5m development project, which also includes a high-end recording studio, state-of-the-art post-production facilities (inc foley room) as well as the Audient mixing and mastering studio.

Alongside the large format mixing console from Audient, there is a rack packed with hardware from SSL, Empirical Audio, Aphex and Lexicon, and also a selection of speakers from PMC,  Yamaha & Avantone. “Mixing and mastering is second to none with the quality of the equipment and the setup of the room. The monitors are also excellent and the listening experience is incredible.

“I actually played some of my own mixes and masters in there to test it and it’s an awesome sounding room. I am a fan!” adds Ace, giving the place a firm nod of approval.

Open to all students – not just those studying Music Production – Ace recently taught a songwriter how to digitally master in the Audient Mix Master room so she could have more control over her own projects. “Most of our students have multiple talents in performance and production – including the business ones – so they all use it for different aspects of their projects, whilst collaborating with each other.

“The proof of the pudding is that it’s always occupied from 9am – 11pm weekdays and 10am – 10pm at weekends. The next step is to install surround sound in there, which we are planning now,” he says.

At the same time as the doors opened to students at Queens Park, the original Kilburn campus was also given an aesthetic refresh. The entrances and hallways around Audient Studios 1 & 2 now sport updated signage and sharp imagery. “I thought it would be nice to get some pictures of our students using and enjoying the Audient equipment outside the studios, to remind everyone that they were there and for all to enjoy!” says Ace.

“Audient has been a main part of the campus for years, collaborating in many projects from master classes to sponsorships,” he explains. “The branding features our diverse range of students and tutors too, which helps make them feel that the area is inclusive and professional.”

The second phase of the extensive ICMP redevelopment project comprising a gig venue, student cafe, further tech suites, classrooms and more is already up and running. The third and final phase starts next year, so there is a lot for ICMP students – and staff – to look forward to.
