Award-Winning Rock Band Back On The Road Showcasing New Album Recorded With iD22

14th mai 2018

Guitarist, songwriter and producer of Mexican four-piece rock band RoJO, Os Burruel swears by his Audient iD22 and ASP800, most recently using them to work on a new album.

“Audient products have it all!”

Nominated for three Latin Grammys and winners of six Premios ARPA® (Harp Awards), an annual awards ceremony hosted in Mexico City by the National Academy of Christian Music and Arts, RoJO has enjoyed much success since its formation in 2000. This latest album, the first to be released after an eight-year hiatus, has the potential for yet more awards. “We never make music to win prizes,” Os assures us. “When the nominations arrive, we know that it was because we made music with quality.”

We should hope so too, as the iD22 audio interface has been used to record all the guitars and some of the keyboards, and Os makes sure everything gets mixed through the retro channels of his Audient 8-channel mic preamplifier, ASP800.

“The most important thing is the quality and sound of the preamp. It sounds very musical on any instrument I record – in any style of music, too.”

“These days you don’t need to have thousands of dollars worth of equipment,” he says, stressing that it’s all about knowing what to choose: “You need a good instrument, a good microphone, a good preamp and a good converter,” he says, underlining the fact that, “Audient products have it all!”

Os explains that his iD22 has everything he needs to hand. “I can record any acoustic instrument with a microphone or simply connect my guitar or bass to the dedicated input. You can really hear the difference. I can also use my outboard gear for the insert inputs –  this is fantastic and I haven’t found this option in any other interface at this price range.

“The converters are the most faithful that I have heard.”

“I also love the monitoring: connect two pairs of speakers, check my mixes in mono, check phases and use talkback if I need it,” he continues. “The most important thing is the quality and sound of the preamp. It sounds very musical on any instrument I record – in any style of music, too. The converters are the most faithful that I have heard.”

Making the most of iD22’s expandability, Os adds ASP800 to his setup, giving him up to ten inputs when he records drums or the full band. “It’s the same quality of preamp, but I always use the two retro channels in kick and snare giving more attack and definition – the  perfect couple.”

RoJO’s latest tour kicked off in May 2018, and will be encompassing a lot of Latin America, including Mexico, USA, Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia and Argentina. Check out their latest single here.
