EVO 4 & iOS: The Smart Recording Combo For Instagram

15th August 2022

Drummer Ryo Okuma has been perfecting his home recording skills with his new EVO 4 – and his iPhone. He describes his setup: “I send electronic drums and other sounds to a mixer, input them to the EVO 4 and then connect using an iPhone.” He’s been particularly busy recently, creating drum video content for Instagram, which he shoots with his iPhone.

Having picked up the British audio interface on a music instrument website in his native Japan, he’s been really impressed with the unit. “I really like the Smartgain function,” he says, highlighting the ease of being able to set levels by simply pressing one button. It’s especially good for him playing drums, he says, “because you can’t take your hands off!”

Ryo is an accomplished drummer who won an award at the 2018 Asia Pacific Drummer Competition and was praised by American jazz-fusion drummer – and judge – Dennis Chambers (John McLaughlin/Funkadelic/Santana) for his improvisational style.

He has dreams of owning his own drum room someday. “I would like to record acoustic drums. EVO 16 seems like it might be convenient for that,” he adds.

EVO 16 would be just the ticket. Enjoy your EVO 4 in the meantime, Ryo!
